What are Euro standards?
Euro standards are EU-derived limits on exhaust emissions that every new vehicle model has to meet. They got stricter over time, from Euro 1 in the early 1990s to Euro 6 from 2014–2015. Your car’s standard is fixed when it’s built — it doesn’t change with age or mileage.
Is my petrol car ULEZ compliant?
Euro 4 became mandatory for all new petrol cars from January 2006, and many were built to it from 2001. So most petrol cars from 2006 onwards are compliant, and many from 2001–2005 are too.
Is my diesel car ULEZ compliant?
Euro 6 became mandatory for all new diesel cars from September 2015. Diesels registered before then are usually Euro 5 and are not compliant — even fairly modern ones. A few models met Euro 6 early.
Is Euro 5 ULEZ compliant?
Euro 5 petrol: yes. Euro 5 diesel: no.
Are vans and motorbikes ULEZ compliant?
Vans follow the same petrol Euro 4 / diesel Euro 6 rule, but diesel vans generally reached Euro 6 a year later (September 2016). Motorcycles need Euro 3, standard on most bikes from July 2007.
How do I check my exact vehicle?
Your V5C logbook may show the Euro status; if not, use our ULEZ checker, which looks up your registration. If a checker says you’re non-compliant but you believe the car meets the standard, the manufacturer can provide a certificate of conformity to prove it.
