Mersey Gateway Bridge toll: Merseyflow prices and how to pay

The Mersey Gateway Bridge between Runcorn and Widnes has no toll booths. Cameras read your number plate and you pay Merseyflow online afterwards.

Cars pay £2.40 per crossing (less with a Merseyflow account) and motorcycles are free. You must pay by 11:59pm the day after you cross, or Merseyflow issues a £50 penalty on top of the toll.

How much is the Mersey Gateway toll?

Car (Class 2)Per crossing
Pay as you go£2.40
Video-registered account£2.30
Sticker-registered account£2.15

Prices from 1 April 2025. Vans, HGVs and other vehicle classes pay different rates — check the band for your vehicle on merseyflow.co.uk. You pay for each crossing, so a return trip is two tolls. The nearby Silver Jubilee Bridge is tolled at the same rates — EveryDrive currently detects Mersey Gateway crossings only.

Is the Mersey Gateway toll cheaper at night or at weekends?

No. Merseyflow charges one price per crossing for each vehicle class, with no peak, night-time, weekend or bank holiday rates, so a car paying as you go pays £2.40 whenever it crosses (Merseyflow).

Times of day only matter for Merseyflow’s off-peak monthly pass (£75 a month, cars and small vans), which isn’t valid at weekday peak times (Merseyflow FAQ):

WhenSingle crossing (car)Off-peak pass
Mon–Fri, 7am–10am and 4pm–7pm£2.40Not valid
Mon–Fri, 10am–4pm and 7pm–7am£2.40Valid
Saturday and Sunday£2.40Valid all day
Public holidays£2.40Valid all day

The payment deadline is the same every day of the week: 11:59pm the day after you cross. Merseyflow gives no extra time for weekends or bank holidays, so a Sunday crossing has to be paid by 11:59pm on Monday.
