Privacy Policy

EveryDrive is operated by Thomas Skeates, trading as EveryDrive (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what personal data we collect through the EveryDrive website and mobile app, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We’re a small, UK-based operation — if anything here is unclear, email software.tmsevents@gmail.com and we’ll answer directly.

Information we collect

Account information: your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. We never store your password in readable form.

Vehicle information: registration number, and (looked up automatically from your registration, or entered manually) make, model, fuel type, Euro emissions standard, and vehicle category.

Location data: when you use “Check now” or plan a route, we use your device’s location or the address you enter, only for that one check. If you turn on Automatic Detection in the mobile app, we also collect your location in the background so we can alert you when you enter a Clean Air Zone — this requires “Always Allow” location permission, which you grant explicitly and can revoke at any time in the app or your phone’s settings. Turning it off stops background collection immediately.

Trip and zone-entry records: when our system detects (or you manually check) that your vehicle is in a charging zone, we log the zone, the time, and whether a charge applies, so you can track and mark charges as paid.

Device and notification data: a per-install device identifier and, if you enable notifications, a push token, so we can send you an alert.

Payment information: two separate things, worth being precise about. Your EveryDrive subscription fee is processed by Stripe, our payment provider — we never see or store your card details. The Clean Air Zone charge itself (e.g. the daily ULEZ fee) is always paid by you directly to the relevant council or Transport for London — we never process, hold, or touch that payment.

Why we collect it, and our legal basis

We use this information to provide the service you’ve signed up for: checking and tracking Clean Air Zone charges, alerting you to zone entries, and managing your subscription. Our legal bases under UK GDPR are: performance of our contract with you (running the account and service you asked for), your explicit consent for background location tracking specifically, and our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure and reliable.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell your data. We share it only with the service providers that help us run EveryDrive, each only for the specific purpose below:

• MongoDB Atlas — hosts our database.
• Vercel — hosts the web app and API.
• Stripe — processes subscription payments.
• SendGrid — sends account and alert emails.
• DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and OneAutoAPI — look up vehicle details from a registration number you provide.
• Google Maps — powers destination search and route planning.
• Apple and Expo’s push notification services — deliver alerts to your phone.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK/EEA; where that happens, they do so under their own standard data-protection safeguards. We’d also disclose information if legally required to, or to protect the safety or rights of EveryDrive or our users.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and trip data for as long as your account is active. If you’d like your account and data deleted, email software.tmsevents@gmail.com and we’ll do so — we’re working on making this available directly in the app.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to: give you a copy of your data, correct anything inaccurate, delete your data, restrict or object to how we use it, or provide it to you in a portable format. You can withdraw consent for background location at any time by turning off Automatic Detection. To exercise any of these, email software.tmsevents@gmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) at any time.

Cookies

The web app uses a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. We don’t use analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies.

Children

EveryDrive isn’t directed at, or intended for, children. It’s a driving-related tool for vehicle owners and drivers.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) throughout, hash passwords and never store them in readable form, and restrict access to your data to what each part of the system needs to function.

Changes to this policy

If we make a material change to this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use EveryDrive after a change means you accept the updated policy.
