How much is the Tyne Tunnel toll?
| Vehicle | Pay per crossing | Pre-Paid Account |
|---|---|---|
| Car or van up to 3.5 tonnes | £2.60 | £2.34 |
| Vehicle over 3.5 tonnes | £5.20 | £4.68 |
| Motorcycle | Free | Free |
You pay for every crossing, in either direction. Tolls are reviewed each year in line with inflation.
Is the Tyne Tunnel toll charged at night and on bank holidays?
Yes. TT2 says a toll is due each time you travel through, and its price list has no night-time, weekend or bank holiday rates, so a car pays £2.60 at any time (TT2).

| Friday 1 January 2027 (New Year’s Day) | Saturday 2 January |
TT2 gives no extra time for weekends or bank holidays. Bank holidays only matter if you miss the deadline: TT2’s Unpaid Toll Charge Notice timetable adds a day for each one.
How to pay the Tyne Tunnel toll
- Pay online at TT2’s payment site — in advance, on the day, or by midnight the day after you cross.
- Or open a TT2 Pre-Paid Account, which pays automatically and saves 10%.
- Avoid unofficial payment sites that add a fee.
What if I forget to pay?
TT2 sends an Unpaid Toll Charge Notice to the registered keeper: the toll plus £30, rising to £60 after 14 days and £100 after 30 days. See forgot to pay the Tyne Tunnel?.
The Tyne Tunnel isn’t part of the Newcastle Clean Air Zone, which covers the city-centre bridges instead.
